Hi there! I’m Jade and I’m an Australian writer based in Brisbane.
I write mostly romance, with a spattering of fantasy and science fiction. My main characters are generally overambitious women who like to have their cake and eat it too. Who says you can’t have it all? Not me!
I’ve had just about every job under the sun – deli worker, waitress, legal secretary, technical writer, laboratory assistant, registered nurse, video game production, contract manager, and construction estimator. I used to tell myself it was because I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up… but once I started approaching 40 I had to accept the fact that it was time to stop procrastinating and just write my damn books.
I once wrote about a character in the same job as me (write what you know, right?) and accidentally prophecised an event that would occur in my own career several years later. In hindsight, I should have written about a lottery winner or a never-ending supply of cheese.
I am a pop-culture junkie and music tragic. I will literally go to the ends of the earth to see my favourite band play – and that’s NOT hyperbole! I once flew 17,000km, from Brisbane Australia all the way to Gothenburg Sweden to see three of my favourite bands play together. I’m full of 80s/90s movie references and I still haven’t gotten over the cancellation of Firefly.
I try and ruin every TV show for my family by guessing what happens next. My daughter and I like to play a game to see who can guess the murderer and the motive first when we watch crime shows. It really irritates my husband (which of course delights us). Conveniently, my daughter also really likes Nathan Fillion, which means I get to rewatch Castle, The Rookie, AND Firefly frequently.
